Turning 40 or 50 this year? Or have you turned these milestone ages recently?
As you reflect back on your life, what are you proud of? What do you know has gone well? Take a moment and write it down somewhere or say it aloud. Too often, we are focused on what’s not going right as opposed to all the good in our lives.
Now as you reach this new milestone, what do you want to gain more of? What do you know your body, mind, or spirit needs to feel fulfilled? Perhaps it’s more family time? To feel connected to your spouse more? To incorporate more movement/activity into your lifestyle? More energy? Aging prevention?
Contentment is a big part of my practice. Helping patients as they move forward into the more “experienced” part of life feeling healthier and happier – with concrete action steps and support along the way.
That’s why looking at your physical health as you approach these milestones can be a great place to activate more energy and day-to-day motivation. I like to do comprehensive functional testing of some or all of the following:
- Hormone testing through saliva or urine.
- Stress assessment through saliva cortisol testing.
- IgG food sensitivity testing – for those with IBS symptoms of gas, bloating, diarrhea or constipation; autoimmune disease (like Hashimoto’s thyroiditis or Rheumatoid arthritis).
- Cardiovascular/glucose markers through blood work – cholesterol, hsCRP, HbA1c, fasting glucose and insulin
- Nutritional physical exam and analysis.
You can learn more about my testing here.
Through an individualized “work-up” of your health history – we will assess what is most important to target to help you set the intention for optimal health as you move forward through the next years to come.
From there, I create a customized health plan based on what your body needs, keeping in mind your goals. Too often, the healthcare industry takes a cookie cutter approach to wellness. Telling everyone to take a particular supplement, or the next trendy food, or diet plan.
But it’s important to remember that what works for another person may not work for you – and that’s ok. That’s why enlisting the honest guidance of a healthcare practitioner committed to your health and wellness. Finding what works for you – can be game changing for the years ahead.
Take this birthday as a chance to give yourself the ultimate gift of lasting wellness. You won’t regret it. I promise.
